The Ritters discussion got me thinking. Not sure if 'American' is the best descriptor - but what I'm referring to is nothing fancy, just you're typical eggs, bacon, potatoes, pancakes, omelettes, nothing fancy breakfast options (hey, sometimes I just want a pile of food for breakfast) - think Delucas in the strip (which by the way I find to be fine, but not worth waiting in line forever for - same goes with Pamela's). I really like Kelly O's in the Strip which rarely has much of a line.
In my southside neighborhood they're few & far between - O'Learys fits the bill & is very old school there.

Figured there's gotta be some other hole in the wall breakfast options that arent just fronts for bottomless mimosa specials that are good that I don't know about elsewhere?

Barb's in Lawrenceville. I love starting off a Sunday morning by walking over there and filling up on breakfast for cheap.

I'll second Gab n Eat in Carnegie. There will be a wait! The staff there are very old school and quite hilarious.
Bob's Diner who has a few locations around town (Kennedy and Carnegie)
The MicroDiner on Mt Washington is a newer, trendy looking establishment but very good food with surprisingly low prices!

Tom's Diner is far more greasy spoon than Dor-Stop. IMO, Dor-Stop actually tries to be good, in an actual "good for you" way.

Eggs R Us in Noble Manor Shopping Center in Crafton is quite popular. Personally I think the food is ok, huge portions, but the place always looks dirty. Eggs-R-Us - West End - Pittsburgh | Urbanspoon

I prefer Hanlon's Cafe in the Crafton Ingram Shopping Center. Food is nothing fancy, but quite good, reasonably priced, friendly waitresses, and the place is clean as a whistle. Hanlon's Café - West End - Crafton | Urbanspoon

There is a little Diner on Murray ave in Greenfield, across from Giant Eagle. The name escapes me right now, but I have been in there a few times for lunch and their breakfast menu looks decent. I keep thinking of stopping in for breakfast some morning.

Casciola's on Rt 50 in Cecil serves a great breakfast. Prices are great food is great. I love the This N That when I go there with friends. Make sure you bring cash, they don't take credit or debit. You have to go to the back door on the left side of the building to enter the little diner behind the ice cream shop.
