hello, i am 21 years old and am moving to somewhere in the Pittsburgh area in around March or so. I was just wondering where some good places to look for employment were. I have no degree, just some credit hours for criminal justice at ksu. So, i don't really have any degrees.

i'm just looking for something that won't be back breaking hard physically but will pay the bills and be considered a decent wage.

thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

If you have no degrees, a good start would be Manpower...you can get work as a teller in a bank maybe, they have great benefits and promote good employees...good luck and keep looking, PGH is a very tough market for those who do have college degrees but you can find work, Banking also usually has tution remimbursment programs, which means you can get an education for free!

I saw at the post office the other day an opening for the position of the guy who enters addresses into the computer. I was suprised that they pay almost $13.00/hour, $1.00/hour more if you're willing to work the night shift.

I know plenty of people with degrees that hardly make any more than that.

I'm sure you would have to take the civil service exam to get a position like that.

Put your resume up on Monster, I literally get contacted every day by someone.

It's not bad, I spent a short amount of time on their loss prevention team and on their merchandising team when I lived in Erie. The thing is they make you shove their stupid extended service plans down customers throats, which I hated.

I did work full time, this was back during the fall of the year 2000. At that time, they did one of the most extensive background checks I had ever been submitted to, probably because they have alot of high ticket items and don't particularly want a thief working there. This time of year may be very difficult to get hired by a company like them, because their hours are cut because of the time of year, but watch for store openings, thats when you have the best chance of getting hired full time. I have heard a Best Buy is going up near the new Borders in East Liberty.

Maybe you should look into the trade unions in the Pittsburgh area.

It's work, but not killer work..The pay is high for this area.

Electrician Union 30.00+/hour with full benefits.
Sheet Metal Union (heating-a/c) 30.00+/hr with full benefits.

Both trades send you to school @ NO cost to you.

Both unions are paying more than most jobs that require a degree.
