Looks like Rivers Casino will pay for it.

Which is great. Nothing like parking for free at the Rivers and taking the T into town for convenient free parking for work!

Free North Shore T service expected to survive without Steelers as sponsor | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

This is great! I've walked to Rivers Casino from my home in Polish Hill before and have then taken the "T" for free back to Steel Plaza to shave about 1/3 off of my return walk home. Glad to hear they've stepped up to the plate.

Gotta love how the comments to that article devolved into a Steelers vs. Pirates argument.

But a good point was raised - seems the stations were designed with free fares in mind. Without sponsorships, how would they collect fares during game days when the trains are packed? Turnstiles?

The comments are priceless considering the Bucs have refused to pay a cent since day 1. After reading that article, I don't blame the Stillers a bit, especially for only 8 games plus possible playoffs a year. Take it or leave it.

Have never been to the Steeler station, but the Allegheny Station would be pretty easy to convert to turnstile entry, since it has a defined entrance. You could put the barriers at the bottom of the first set of steps, I think.

So do I, it'd make so much sense, but good luck getting Station Square-based sponsors to pony up the way their North Shore counterparts have. As far as I'm aware, that's really what it comes down to.

Awesomeness. I have used it from the North Side station to get up to Steel Plaza on the hottest days.

I haven't been to the casino in 3 years, I think, but will make it a point to go there and try to find amusement and a good time, while supporting Rivers. Thank you, Rivers!

Pirates, Steelers: *turns back*

Stillers offered $$$ and have contributed. Not their fault that's not good enough, now. Everybody looks for something for nothing and when they get it they want more.

Knickers in a knot over those Steelers. You'd think that just because we subsidized their stadium, subsidized their development rights on the North Shore, built a subway directly to their subsidized stadium, and bend over for just about anything they decree, they would turn around and MAYBE send some of the corporate welfare back to the community. Maybe they're still mad that we didn't subsidize the 3,000 additional seats that they wanted. Who are the real welfare queens here?
