My bf and I like to go urban exploring and we can't figure out how you get to this one spot. It's in that valley off to the right of 837 when you're heading to Downtown from Squirrel Hill. It's basically comprised of a few different dilapidated houses. Could that be part of Oakland or ...? PS: sorry for the horrible description. I'm not very good at describing stuff.

Alastad..837? That is Eighth Avenue, Homestead, and Carson Street, basically. Where does Squirrel Hill come into play?

I am thinking that you mean somewhere between The Waterfront, the High Level Bridge (old name), and Squirrel Hill) - but then that is basically heading TO Squirrel Hill, or to Homestead, and not to Downtown (unless you pass Squirrel Hill - but by then, you are not on 837!).

You might mean between Homestead towards Hays - but then, to the right are the remnants of industry, and a few industrial buildings....

Or, you might mean Duck Hollow (basically down the hill behind IHOP, the Hokaido, and the Jewish home for the aged...

You have me curious.

"The Run"? As in Four-Mile Run? It's sort of Greenfield? Home of BigJim'sInTheRun?

I concurr. While I don't understand the 837 reference, it sounds like Four-Mile Run to me.

This was my first thought, assuming the OP actually means 376.

From the Sq Hill exit (in either direction), stay to the right on the off-ramp and follow Beechwood Blvd, at the first light (IIRC there's a gas station on the left) make a left, and then immediately the next right past the pizza place to get onto Greenfield Ave. At the bottom of Greenfield Ave (before the train viaduct) make a right onto Saline St, which is the main road into "The Run."

You can also get there on foot via a trail from Boundary St in Oakland and Panther Hollow.

You're talking about the "Run". It starts at the corner of 2nd and Greenfield Ave. where the access van garage used to be, and goes back more than a mile underneath 376. One way in by car, and one way out. Sort of really isolated, but I don't think its that quiet with the superhighway over head.

To get their get off 376 at Oakland/PA 885, take the Greenfield ramp to Bates down to 2nd Ave. Make a left on 2nd, when it goes underneath the railroad, stay in the left lane and go left.

Alastad, it might be fun to bike through it - you can get from near The Fairfax apartments/Central Catholic/WQED area, down that hill, all the way to said intersection stated in the comment above....then you can take the paved trail to the South Side, or all da way back to Dahntahn.

It is heavily used, too by walkers and bicyclists, not for pleasure only but to get to a point B - which is nice to see.
