I just saw an ad from Joe's Crab Shack stating oysters are in season. Last time I went there I felt everything was overcooked and really not good for the price. If you are going to charge those prices, you better know how to cook seafood. Anyway, I like raw oysters, but not sure where to go. Anyone have a favorite place? Thanks.

The Original Oyster House - Pittsburgh I don't eat seafood, but they have been in market square forever.

I don't think they sell raw oysters though.

I hate oysters, but Penn Ave Seafood is great and when it comes to raw shellfish I wouldn't trust anywhere but the best.

You'd think that, but....
I went there once for the sole purpose of eating oysters a few years ago and found that they have a suprising lack of oysters. The only oyster item on the menu was some breaded thing that was terrible. Given the menu as a whole I have no clue how they're still in business - can only guess they are one of those places that seem to survive around here based on their past history rather than their actual food (hello Del's).

Unless something changed in the past few years since I've been there I don't recommend it nor will you find oysters.

NOLA has good raw oysters. Granted they are expensive but good, though obviously not as good as eating them right off the boat in Apalachicola.

I had never had raw oysters until I was a college student traveling around Mexico and Central America with my best friend back in the late 70s. When we were in El Salvador an American family visiting their relatives took us under their wing. They showed us around, introduced us to their extended family, and took us to the coast to have oysters. I'll never forget sitting on the deck of a crumbling old hotel that overlooked the Pacific and watching the men harvesting oysters. We ate plates of them. So delicious. I love them. Haven't tried any here. I'm nervous about freshness when I'm not on the coast.

Does Luke Wholey's serve them and if they do, are they any good?
