I'm going to be traveling out of town next month, will be needing a ride out to the 'port.

I'd like to size them up, maybe arrange to choose what uber driver to hire to take me out there and back.

Theoretically, I understand that.

But if a uber driver could get fares outside the uber system, it could be more profitable to them. I think it would be wise for the folks involved to print up business cards and work together with their fellow drivers to build their private businesses especially with steady riders.

Well if you had driver "hangouts" you'd really be pushing the taxi commissions buttons. And probably be on the wrong side... I think Uber recognizes that and would frown on the practice.

May as well just put an ad on CraigsList if you're looking to cut Uber out of their cut. How much could it possibly cost going through Uber?

I would think that a place for drivers to meet and exchange stories could be a point of positivity for drivers as far as strategies for taking trips, fares to avoid, speed traps and suggested short cuts. I'm sure the Uber company sees advantage to keeping the drivers isolated, but there is really no way to prevent free association.

To the erieguy, I would never seek to cheat ("jip" is an ethnic slur, if you didn't know) Uber or anyone else. They are entitled to a share for the trips they facilitate through their computer app- and that isn't what I'm suggesting. They don't own a piece of independent business people who contract with them.

So why not just take a taxi or pay Uber, who is responsible for operating the business, rather than going around to the back door?

Uber's business is a driver service company, they provide a service to drivers to help them get fares.

They aren't a transportation company, and they don't provide anyone a ride.

Got it. Instead of going through Uber and them getting their cut, you're going around the back door and rationalizing the service they provide to save yourself some nickels.

And to make them less vulnerable to muggers/serial killers. I've never used Uber, but I understand that you never have to exchange cash with the passenger and if you turn-up dead, Uber knows enough so the police can find your murderer without too much trouble.
