Hey guys I am going to look at a house for the 2nd time and I just wanted to get a feel for what people know about the East Pittsburgh area and or Wilkins township. I am looking at 908 greensburg pike, East Pittsburgh PA 15112. Does anyone know about that location specifically?

I used to live in the same general area, on North Avenue in Chalfant Boro. This was 2007-2009. It was a very quiet, family friendly, and safe area. I think the main issue people have with this area is the school district, but it's a great value aside from that.

Woodland Hills is near the bottom, maybe a tad better than Wilkinsburg but not anyone else.

Greensburg Pike in the Wilkins area is a nice wide road, not a terrible lot of traffic, but if you don't have children in school, it could be a good value as the crappy school system is considered in the price of real estate.

Yes. 33.33% of students at Woodland Hills High School were suspended in 2011-12.

Below average academic performance as well.

That being said, I have friends who graduated from Woodland Hills and are now successful. It's just not the ideal district for most people.

So as a whole the area is definitely safe to raise a family. When its time for schooling I should look for private schools. Does that sound right

I believe that the area is pretty safe.

The school district has some real issues, but there are opportunities to get a good education if the students apply themselves. Parents that have children in the charter schools seem to be quite happy with the schools, so that may be another option.

I have friends that graduated from there as well and went on to be successful (Ivies, med school, law school, etc). However, they graduated some time ago (late 1980's). Initially, Woodland Hills wasn't as bad as it is now. I think it is relevant to state when your friends finished.

A friend taught at the high school about 8 years ago and he said it was awful then. I do think it bottomed out at that point.

Probably. As long as you don't plan on ever selling the place. At best you will loose money selling or you spend years selling it and at the end would still loose lots of money in the process. The house you are looking at has been on the market for two years now and the price keeps dropping.
