We have a wooden porch and some of the boards are soft and need to be replaced. Any recommendations on who could do this? Should I find a carpenter? I know this needs to be done properly so it doesn't rot again.
Any advice is appreciated. I don't want someone going through the floor!

A few friends have had to have work done on their porches. They either used a contractor or a Handyman. Kind of depends on how big the job is.

I would ask to see if a friend or co worker used someone in the past, I love jobs like this, they are great filler jobs, but some guys don't want to be bothered. I would look for a carpenter or a small contractor, a handyman may mess it up

He's right. There may be structural issues involved. You want someone who knows what to look for and how to fix it - and correct any problems that might have been contributing to the rot. Talk to your neighbors, especially those who have porches similar to yours, to see if they know someone who does good work.

You. You can do this.

I believe in you.

Thanks all. Unfortunately none of my neighbors have had work done, but most have concrete porches. I'll keep asking around.
And wow, Q-tip, thanks for you (and Ron Swanson's) vote of confidence.

Being serious though. If we're talking supporting structure then definitely get a contractor. If we're talking the actual boards replacing them is cheap and easy. You will feel good about yourself. People will respect you. You will have become a god among men (or women).
