A lot of older people aren't dying, some are moving to be close to their descendants many of whom flew the coop after the collapse of steel.

Leaves room to transform the central core of Pittsburgh into a new version of Portland, complete with an ultraprogressive mayor bringing in foreign concepts like bike lanes.

The opposite is true for my family. I come from a large family. I remember many of them disapearing into thin air around 1979. I was too young to understand then but I remember the whispering and crying of many of my neighbors. Over the past year my older aunts and uncles are returning to Pittsburgh to be closer to siblings. My mother is one of ten children and by 1980 only three siblings lived in the Pittsburgh area. My oldest uncle returned home to retire after living in L.A. for 30 + years. He started his career as a engineer for Westinghouse and later worked for lockheed Martin. Upon his return to Pittsburgh he became bored and worked another 12 years for Mitsubishi in Warrendale PA. He recently retired again at the age of 72.

I know many people who have moved back to the Pittsburgh area in their 50's and 60's after leaving in the 1980's.

They just don't usually move into the City.

WNY has been doing a lot to attract businesses to the area with StartupNY. Much of the development around Rochester is based on technologies and RIT.

I had a friend who attended the University of Rochester and loved it. The city has always been a lot "younger" in attitude than Buffalo.
