So the plans downtown encompass approximately 1/2 mile of city streets (if you measure from the entire loop from Commonwealth Place to Stanwix and back), but your suggestion is to implement the same concept across 3 miles of streets that are designed in a completely different way.

Also, how many drivers are really going to just plow into a street full of people just because they don’t have a stop sign or light to tell them not to?

Fortunately, however, there is a network of tunnels underneath Gateway Center connecting the various buildings, so it is unlikely to bring things to a halt

Right, so it's ok to make downtown dangerous for pedestrians, but not the East End because the designs are different.

How many drivers? I'm sure the ambulance chasing lawyers will be able to answer that question. Hopefully, some will sue Peduto personally when we find out.

Yes, it is not right to try to implement the same traffic patterns and regulations to streets that are not designed the same way.

Gateway Center is self--contained. It's getting across Stanwix that's the problem. I think there's a tunnel across that street to the former Hornes building, now Highmark, but how many people travel to Highmark from Gateway Center? I suspect there's security at both tunnel exits to keep riff raff out.

FYI: The East End is not my back yard.

You wouldn’t put turnpike speed limits on non-turnpike highways would you?

Not a valid comparison.

There's nothing about the design of the roads in the area they're talking about downtown that makes it a better candidate than the East End for a progressive experiment.
