Cranberry used to be rural. It's so nice there now that that's been remedied...

I remember when Wexford and Warrendale were very rural. Things change.

I think you have misconceptions about the Pennsylvania countryside.

Looking at the city-data data about Jefferson and Clearfield counties, only about 10% of the public out there are evangeiicals and I've never heard of problems in regards to minorities out there. Few transplants of any type out there, they aren't growing areas economically and haven't been for a hundred years.

Ugh, god help me. I'm about to venture out of my office in Cranberry for lunch. What despair awaits me?!

Liar. Nobody works in Cranberry. It's full of people who work in downtown Pittsburgh and only live there because they're afraid of the city.

Well, Cranberry, which is, after all, the topic of this thread, at one time was a hotbed of evangelical criminal activity. (This is back when it was rural, mind you)

Anybody besides me remember Brother Dan and Sister Ann, who owned the Norsub Truck Stop on 19, just north of the intersection with 228? They built a revival center down on McKnight Road, just up the hill from Babcock Blvd. I always thought it looked kinda like a giant Hershey's Kiss. But I digress...

Here, just to jog memories, are a couple of links:

Obituary: Anne C. Ofchinick / Co-founder of Pittsburgh Revival Center

Quote:

Mrs. Ofchinick, universally known as "Sister Anne," and her husband, "Brother
Dan," ...

....Dan Ofchinick and his son, Daniel Ofchinick Jr., were convicted in 1988
on federal racketeering charges for bilking the financing division of Mack
Trucks Inc. of nearly $7 million.

The United States v. Daniel R. Ofchinick, Sr., Daniel R. Ofchinick, Jr., A/k/adan Scanlon, Norsub, Inc., Somerset Mack Sales and Service, inc., Thomas S. Stromoski, Thomas J. Nolfi, Lewis P.richardson, A/k/a Pat Richardson, Robert C. Delucia, A/k/arob

Quote:
At the hub of the conspiracy was Norsub, Inc. ("Norsub"), a Pennsylvania
corporation engaged in the trucking business. The kingpins of the scheme were
Daniel R. Ofchinick, Sr., Norsub's sole shareholder, and his son, Daniel R.
Ofchinick, Jr., who managed Norsub's daily operations.
So, really, I wouldn't be surprised in the least that the dreaded urban sprawl that is Cranberry has driven the evangelical mafia further out into the countryside!

I've heard of Brother Dan and Sister Ann and I remember a Harper's Truck Stop.

I actually visit rural areas often and never experienced any "Bible thumping". I expect if one actually left the city and visited some actual rural areas, none of the "scary" things would be experienced.

Brother Dan and Sister Ann's church was over on California Ave. near the main post office, the building is still there and still a church (North Side Institutional Church?) owns the building now I think. Only their business interests were over in Cranberry.

I am still pretty upset about all of the rural land that was developed near the confluence. Absolutely sickening...
