I started using a Brita 80oz replacement filter pitcher over a year ago and the difference in taste is night and day . Towards the end of the 3rd month I can taste the city making it's way back in so I replace. I drink at least 3 liters/day so taste/quality is important. A few months back I took the strainer off of the kitchen faucet and found plastic pellets, sand a nd what looked like a lump of coal.

Yes a simple filter can remove 99% of lead, so it isn't some huge deal. At least Pittsburgh residents don't turn it into a national crisis. Filters are pretty cheap an last a long time.

Just to be clear, the water tests are done at the tap. The water from the source isn't where the lead is coming from. You can order a free test kit from the PWSA to test ones own water (I just sent mine back for testing last week) which would be the only relevant test for ones own drinking purposes. Everyone should do that test.

Of course that being said, if the PWSA contracted to save money & a corrosive agent was indeed fed into the system they should be held to some negligent standard to reimburse for the damage. (& let them fight it out with the subcontractor over indemnity).

It wasn't a corrosive added in, from my understanding. It was that the anti-corrosive they had been permitted for, was changed on their own accord, with no regulatory oversite/approval from the state twice. The new anti-corrosive(s) were/are less effective. Im sure it was cheaper, and officials probably pocketed the rest.

Either way, them saying "homeowners must pay for the connector pipes" is kinda horse****. But I'm sure they'd be bumping taxes like crazy otherwise, and peoplewould b¡tch. I'm still waiting on my test results. Just been doing bottled water meanwhile.
