Hello! We want to relocate to the area and we noticed some very affordable homes in New Kensington area?
Thoughts?
Looking for a good-old family town with great schools and good sports? Good restaurants? Delis and bakeries! Not picky, huh? We love big old homes with character.
My Dad, who is 81 Wed., was born in Leechburg and grew-up in Ford Cliff - went to Ford City High and then to Duquesne:-)

The reason why the areas are affordable is because the areas have limited economic opportunities and they don't have a lot of money so their schools are less than stellar.

Spingdale is an attractive enough town, Creighton less so but they have lots of children- I've caught behind the school bus on Freeport, Tarentum looks like it has a good deal of business as well. The school districts, Deer Lakes, Highlands, Allegheny Valley are all middle of the pack.

If you're dad is still driving, take a look.

Agreed, however, the public schools are universally bad relative to the metro area.

Yes.

IMO, Burrell is a much better school district, and St. Joe's is just across the river for high school.

Beaver PA or a surrounding community (Hopewell, Center) sounds like it would fit the bill. Good schools in the area (Beaver area, Central Valley, Hopewell, South Side etc..), high school football is big in the area and easy access to the Beaver Valley Mall, Downtown Pittsburgh, Robinson, Cranberry & the airport. Downtown Beaver is a charming, safe old school town with no bars, no chain restaurants (Fantastic local spots), it's own Hardware and Grocery store, great bakery (Kretchmars) and older & big houses.
