OK, but it really isn't fair to single out erieguy this way.

BTW, plenty of 80+ y/o's are just as safe as anyone else. The idea of locking up the elderly where they aren't seen isn't very progressive.
Luckily, I never claimed to be a progressive of any kind.

And no intention at all at locking anyone up. I believe that people should have options and as many of them as possible. Home delivery is a great option to have. Besides pharm deliveries and online orders, Access is a great and safe transportation option for those who have limited driving abilities for any reason whatsoever and don't want to be stuck at home all the time.

Lol. I'm flattered I'm on your mind but by the time I'm 80 I'll be a full-time Southern dweller in Boca.

Honestly, no, not all jobs suck. In addition, different employers have different attitudes towards their employees. If you do the research, you will see that many Postmates feel exploited and unfairly compensated by their employer.

Even if one's job is not their passion, there are tons of companies out there that value their employees, treat them fairly, and compensate them accordingly. If I were punching a clock, I would at least want to do so for a company that values its employees and treats them fairly.

ETA: If you are willing to switch jobs, then it may be the perfect time think about what kind of job would make you happy, or at least less unhappy. Things that I think would interest you, and you would be good at include: real estate agent, hotel concierge (e.g., https://omnihotels.hua.hrsmart.com/h...g/view/33123/0), City of Pittsburgh jobs (https://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/em...bListings.aspx), Allegheny County jobs (http://www.alleghenycounty.us/jobs/index.aspx), and Pittsburgh Tourism (e.g., http://www.visitpittsburgh.com/about-us/employment/). If you do some soul searching, I bet you would think of other jobs that might not only pay the bills, but give you some satisfaction.

When someone tips you, do you expect a percentage on just the food cost, or do you add the delivery charge to your expected tippable total?

PostMates adds the food and delivery cost, then tells you how much you need to tip at 10%, 15%, or 20%. I tipped 20% on the cost of food, but nothing on the delivery charge.

In my opinion, you should tip based on the cost of the food. Similarly, in a restaurant, you tip on the sub-total before tax.

Postmates claims that the majority of the delivery fee goes to the delivery person. Therefore, at least half of the delivery fee goes to the driver, plus whatever you tip them. It seems like double dipping to tip on a fee that is, at least partially, collected by the driver.

I wonder if they share any of the tip they get with the restaurant where the food came from.

There was a discussion on here recently about tipping for take outs and the general consensus was that such tips, while certainly appreciated, are not always given, or given at a lesser rate as the take out is not a complete sit down experience.

So a driver who is already paying for her or his own gasoline, maintenance, and other vehicle-related expenditures should split their tips with restaurant personnel? In theory this sounds fair, but how would this position be viable? For example, let's say I do two deliveries in an hour, and I'm paid $3 for each delivery ($6 total). Each customer tips me $5 ($10 total). I give $2.50 of each of those tips to separate waitstaff who prepared the order for pick-up, which leaves me making $6 + $5 ($11/hr.) Subtracting money for taxes, gasoline, and maintenance, that then comes down to netting around minimum wage. It's just not feasible for delivery drivers to give half their tips to restaurant staffers, unfortunately.

SCR, I'm not suggesting anything at the slightest. What I'm asking is if the company has a policy regarding restaurant order pickup tipping.

I think I just answered my own question:
Quote:
Tip is not required. 100% goes to your Postmate for their effort on the delivery. If you would like to leave a tip, you are given the opportunity to add 10%, 15%, 20% or a custom dollar amount. The tip screen will pop up once your delivery is complete.

I love my job, currently. Most jobs I've had I'd qualify as not something I'd rather do than go on vacation in Tahiti, but not a bad way to spend some time and make a buck.

Back on topic, can someone explain to me how this service differs from the food delivery services already available? (Not that I use any of them-- I'd rather save the few bucks and pick the food up myself.)
