The answer to the OP is obviously that he/she is suffering from "confirmation bias". His/her brain won't allow him/her to see the white people who walk in the street. That's the only rational answer if this is a sincere question.

There is absolutely NO WAY the poster has been driving his/her car for five years around Pittsburgh without seeing white people walk in the street.

AND that's why (along with the fact that it was the OP's very first post on city data) I assumed that the OP was a sock puppet.

Anyway... I walk in the middle of the street quite often here in the city IF it is a single-lane road. I am much more comfortable with that on back streets than walking on the sidewalks, and I have logged hundreds and hundreds of miles without even getting close to being hit by a car.

I have also been bit by dogs, but that has ONLY happened while I was walking on sidewalks. I'm sure that plays into it as well.

He did mention that he's talking about the north side. I've never seen a white person walking in the street up here either, it really does seem to just be the black people for whatever reason. There are a couple teenagers who live up the street from me who hang out and walk down to the convenience store on Perrysville a lot - the black teen walks in the street, the white teen on the sidewalk.

I've been driving around Pittsburgh for about twenty years, and I haven't seen much of this. Where is it going on, exactly?

....and....success!
"First time poster," who only posted one day on a generalizing topic has gotten people to argue over nothing more than an opinion and sweeping generalization meant to polarize.

If it's McKnight Road, maybe because there aren't any sidewalks.
