Which exurbs, you ask? The answer may surprise you. According to the census data, Greene County and Indiana County have seen some of the highest migration growth in Western Pennsylvania.

Western Pennsylvania population growth, in 'exurban' areas, bucks national trends | TribLIVE

So, instead of picking on Cranberry exclusively, please consider sharing your negativity with the exurbs located in Greene County and Indiana County.

If someone seriously wants to live in Indiana County, more power to them I guess. I used to work with two guys who would commute from Armagh to Southside Pittsburgh. Their day started at 4:00 AM.

If your job is in Indiana County or one of the other growing areas out there, it would be burdomsome to live all the way in Pittsburgh

Not everyone commutes. Depending on ones job, more and more people work from home. Commute time is about 30 seconds.

Not sure why many assume everyone works in the city.

A lot to be said for getting up at 8:28 to be at work by 8:30

The Indiana PA real estate market is about as flat as the terrain in the state of Indiana. It isn't bad, but prices are up maybe 5% total over 10 years. That's 1/2 % growth per year.

I have a friend whose husband is an adjunct professor at IUP. They live in Highland Park. Of course he doesn't have to be on campus every day of the week, but still.

As to the OP, remember these are only track net migration growth - not migration source. I'll be dollars to donuts that those migrating to Indiana and Greene counties are not mostly coming from Allegheny County, or even the "suburban" counties (IMHO, Westmoreland, Beaver, and Washington are really exurbs themselves). Instead the growth would be from other parts of the state and across the nation.

That's part of that business, I think. I was talking just last week to a man who lives in Ross and works PT at Wheeling Jesuit. That's got to be a tough commute especially with all the road construction on the way

Yeah, typically if you an an adjunct, you need to work at 2-3 schools to make a decent salary, because you only get paid about 1/4th of what a regular professor does on an hourly basis.

A lot of years he makes more money as a professional gambler (he's pretty good at poker) than he does at his job.

What surprised me is that there are 8,100 people from little Lawrence County (pop. about 89,000) who commute to the Pittsburgh metro. Granted, the metro starts right at the Beaver/Lawrence and Butler/Lawrence line, so it's only a short drive, but I know a lot of them take the commuter buses into downtown Pittsburgh, too.
