Mad Mike was a local DJ in the sixties. He and Porky Chedwick who played Dusty Discs provided a unique type of music not heard anywhere else.

What station was Mad Mike on? Porky was WAMO. Bob
Livorio played oldies for WKPA in New Ken and was still
playing them in the 1980s. I think Terry Lee spun some
oldies?

I listen to WEDO 810AM with Big Ray and Candy & Mike. Big Ray still spins records! Also WKFB 770AM has Caveman Ralph.

If you're into Mad Mike and Porky, check out the Vipers Soul Club. It's a monthly dance night held at East Liberty's Shadow Lounge focusing on 1960's R&B, obscure and classic soul, Motown, and more. All spun on original 45 RPM records. Vipers Soul Club

Mad Mike died on his favorite holiday a few years ago. He had a bigger record collection in his house than any record store or radio station ever had. I always told him he was a moldie oldie and he would laugh.

When I was a kid, oldies music was something from the 40's.

Dad would stand and hum while riding in a elevator and would put that elevator music on the radio when he drove down the road.

Then in the 70's - the music we called oldies was from the 50's

Now you go into a grocery store and they are playing Beetles and Rolling Stones and hair bands from the 80's.

In Erie PA, there is no more 50's stations - not even on the AM rdio.

Most of the oldies stations plays music from the 70's because the people from the 50's are mostly in their 60's, 70's and 80's - if they are even still alive.

i have one of his compilations; i got it at jerry's.

wasn't he the dj who made the sonics' "psycho" a hit in the area?

i'm only in my early 30s, but i used to listen to the oldies station when i was a kid and i definitely miss them playing music from the 50s. and the addition of "ricky don't lose that number" to the playlist doesn't really make up for it. i don't think 3ws even calls itself an oldies station anymore.

now i listen to sirius radio, where they have 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s stations. hell, i wish they had a 30s station!

oh, one good local station for oldies is wlsw, 103.9 in the evenings and weekends. charlie apple has a show on saturday mornings that is really good. unfortunately they don't have a very powerful signal.

and if you want some REAL oldies, rhythm sweet & hot on wduq (90.5) on saturday nights from 7pm-10pm plays jazz & pop from the 20s-40s.
