People barely care about $500 if it's a successful program.

Pitt is practically giving away season tickets. You can get them for as low as $100, I think.

Cost is not a factor, when season ticket could be had for as low as $100.

That $500 you mention is a donation to the scholarship fund, so that you can purchase prime club seats.
$250 gets you club seats in the side sections of the club.

Many seats need no donation.

Pitt is actually cheaper in this regard than most large schools...

This is another issue. Since Heinz Field is about 20,000+ too large for Pitt's fanbase, too many tickets can be had for cheap. A smaller venue increases the value of each ticket, which means more people feel the need to donate more, which results in a larger culture of giving among the fans.

Meh... the clubs are pretty much sold out, so people don't have an issue with the donation OR the higher seat price.

I'm sure that's the case now, but I was wondering if the big drop from 59,000 to 33,000 wasn't explained by Pitt trying to charge more for tickets. I don't think we had club seats, but maybe we did. That was a long time ago.

Yep, which is close to what we paid in 1987 for season tickets (section 22 - $105 per seat).

FWIW... also in 1987, the donation for primo seats was $250.

Without cars to get there, you'll never fill a stadium.

One other thing that Pitt is doing that seems pretty dumb to me:
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-...185528391.html

Even the B1G has exceptions for certain G5 schools (BYU, Boise St., Cincy, UConn, et.al.). I don't understand a no-exceptions policy when some of the schools being denied by Pitt are ranked.

A school like Cincy or Temple would draw better in Heinz than some ACC teams, but it's doubtful those teams would agree to play Pitt w/o home and home. Going into last weekend, 5 or 6 of the top 25 were G5 schools.

Given this policy, it's also going to make the cost to schedule non-P5 teams more expensive for Pitt as FCS schools will have more leverage. If a school demands and gets $2 million from Pitt to play at Heinz, Pitt has pretty much zero chance of making that money back in attendance.
