Hi everyone,

Does any of you use non-emergency medical transportation in Pittsburgh? Not ambulances, but those wheelchair accessible vans, you know. It looks like one of my friends will soon be needing regular trips to a doctor, and he's moving in a wheelchair, so he can't drive or call a taxi.

Does anyone know any companies around Pittsburgh who do that? If you could share contacts, prices, and any additional info and tips that would be great.

Thank you!

Perhaps he is eligible for the public transit's paratransit option. Just being in a wheel chair won't be sufficient for eligibility, but if he is unable to ride a bus, he could use Access.

Port Authority of Allegheny County > Rider Services > ACCESS Paratransit

And when you contact anyone, do not ask about "companies around Pitt who do that" unless you are talking specifically about the university.
If you mean the city, say Pittsburgh.

Thanks Moby Hick, I'll look into that. In case he's not eligible, I'd still appreciate if someone here who uses commercial services or knows someone who does, could share some details. Thanks!

If your friend is on medicaid, medical transportation is part of the benefit, 412-350-6100 is the contact number for Allegheny County residents.

If he is outside of Allegheny County, this is the link to the numbers for the rest of the state
Medical Assistance Transportation Program
