The Electrical Workers Union got the thumbs up and are now recognized.

I guess the "jurisdictions" of the various unions doesn't count for a lot, I'm surprised that the UFCW retail clerks didn't object.

Several years ago we had a jurisdiction fight between SEIU and UNITE HERE over the representation of convention center employees.

Well, regardless of what union the workers joined... there's more power in numbers. And at least these folks will have someone advocating for them. Can't be a bad thing, from their perspective. Democracy in action!

Good, it's about time. The Wobblies failed in their original attempt to organize the co-op several years ago, glad to see there was the will to try again.

This is a little close to home for me, because the co-op workers joined the union that I have worked for since moving to Pittsburgh.

FWIW, we have experience in natural food co-ops, having represented two in Vermont for well over a decade now. This experience was why the co-op members inquired about joining us. They had no interest in UFCW, but that union forced its way onto the ballot despite not having a single card signed. We agreed to allow them on the ballot because we didn't want to delay the date of the election - they got zero votes.
