It's crazy to think there are three different breweries opening up on the North Side within the next year or so. The East End is much larger, but has very little outside of Lawrenceville. All I can think of is East End, Independent, and Copper Kettle, but I may be missing a few nanobreweries.

I don't think Independent Brewing actually brews. The Copper Kettle is Hough's, basically.

Yeah, you're right that Independent isn't actually a brewery. Strike one off the list.

There is a nanobrewery in Highland Park (Co Star) that I forgot about. They're barely above homebrewer level though, just selling to IBC and a handful of local restaurants.

It's a very nice bar. I don't really care if they don't brew anything themselves.

I guess the hofbrauhaus counts. Not my favorite place, but it got the seal of approval from some German I took there, so there's that at least.

Hofbräuhaus of course counts. I feel it is very much like a big German brewery with pretty good German style beers. Nice view of the river as well. I think many don't like it because it isn't a sports bar, which is what Pittsburgh is pretty much all about.

The key with beer is to keep the beer lines clean and the suds themselves cold.

Then you don't need to get fancy, and just drink a more popularly priced brew like Pabst or Old Mil.

Some beers aren't supposed to be chilled.

Old Milwaukee wasn't bad the last time I had it, but that was decades ago. I tried Pabst recently. The hipsters are lying. It's horrible. Worse than IC Light but better than IC. There are good cheap beers. The Duke is better than any other cheap lager I've tried lately.
