Only beat out by NYC, pretty stunning statistic.

Notably, Pittsburgh achieved a rate of cultural attendance in 2010 that was 94.4 percent of the New York level and 2 percent higher than Philadelphia's.

Interesting. I'd be curious to know how "arts" is defined ....also it's a 30 mile radius, so it's not just downtown pgh, but lots of surrounding towns/suburbs/etc.

Anyone see this comment on the article from Jim?
Someone has never heard of Kennywood or the rivers...

I am not taking a slap at Pittsburgh. N E Ohioans have so many more choices of things to do especially in the Summer . We have the beaches, boating and sailing out on the lake , going to the Islands, Cedar Point and our great Metroparks all around us. Folks in Pittsburgh will go to arts events sometimes because they don't have all the other choices like we do here in Cleveland and N E Ohio . I know , I have been there.

They know we have bars here, right? There's no need to go appreciate art if you don't want to.

That "Jim" guy's comments are rather odd.

BTW, Pittsburgh isn't ranked 2nd in the country. The chart is of 11 comparison cities in per capita comparisons to NYC.
It's still impressive that of the cities that the included, Pittsburgh ranked the highest.

Or the Laurel Highlands, for that matter. They're the same distance from Pittsburgh that Cedar Point is from Cleveland.

Also I'd assume it is usually a different type of crowd going to art events vs amusement parks, which most people probably only go to once a year anyway. Jim is a Cleveland homer, doing what they do best. In wintertime, Pittsburgh has more to do than Cleveland outdoors, with various skiing/snowboarding options nearby. There is nowhere to ski or snowboard anywhere near Cleveland for anyone older than 10. and then there's football, the Steelers are almost always contenders. what do Clevelanders do on football sundays?? they should be getting out more to support the arts
