Wilkinsburg has always been a bedroom community. That means, that unlike say Braddock, there is no industry contributing tax dollars to the borough.

Has anyone ever gotten a parking ticket from Wilkinsburg, I cant remember the dollar amount but it was insane. I got a ticket for parking during street cleaning. The street sweeper never showed up, I went to the mayors office to complain about the ticket. I told him if they had a running street sweeper bring it up to in front of my house and I will pay the ticket if not I will fight it. He took the ticket and got rid of it. They ticket you for blocking the street sweeper, but at the time they did not own one. From dealing with code enforcement to the police everything is slow and backwards.

Street sweeping tickets are $15 in Wilkinsburg and I have personally seen the elusive white whale street sweeper with my own eyes. I can't comment on when you lived there though. I don't think it's much different than anywhere else... if there are too many cars on a block the street sweeper won't even come through as there's no point.

Sweep tix go up to $25 though by 5 PM which is annoying as most people are at work until that time and don't discover their ticket until after the increase.

I paid numerous tickets when I lived there. They seemed to be quite aggressive in handing them out, must be a source of income for the borough.

I don't understand why anyone would give the mayor of a beleaguered municipality a hard time over paying a parking ticket. You were violating the ordinance, correct? Don't be selfish. Pay the fine and be done with it.

This was 8 years ago, I may not remember it correctly but I thought it was $50

When the signs don't exist, the street sweeper doesn't exist, but they still ticket. I don't care how poor a town is. If you want to give your money away that is fine, but I am raising a family and they need mine more than Wilkinsburg.

I would say Homewood is the most dangerous, BUT Homewood is much cheaper because it is in the city and the kids would go to a city school. Of course we are comparing two pretty depressed areas. I really thought Wilkinsburg was going to make a turn for the better. Their little downtown was getting some improvement for a bit, but I drove through there the other day and it looked really bad. Nothing much left, but of course the famous gun store.

Oh well. You can't invest in Wilkinsburg due to property taxes. If Wilkinsburg was part of Pittsburgh I think it would do well over a 10 year period, but as it is right now, forgetaboutit.

Another K9 dog killed. Shame we use dogs for our human messes. Oh well, I feel for the dog.
