So sure Facebook is an evil empire yet so much faith in Twitter you're bragging about your length of membership! I think either one can be an incredible asset or a waste of time depending on how you use it and how often you use it. I've found on Facebook I'm increasingly putting individuals on ignore but using it more and more to read pages like Humans of New York and get plenty of highly recommended blurbs from various news sources at once which is a lot more work on other platforms.

Personal opinions of the companies aside, this is nothing but good news for Pittsburgh. As the OP stated they are joining a growing list of companies recognized worldwide that have set up shop here. CMU strikes again.

This is what tumblr is for. If I'm not mistaken, Humans of New York started on tumblr. I've been following it over there since at least 2010.

One of these things is not like the others...

Disney? Postmates? They're all Silicon Valley-oriented "techie" firms, which is why I included them. Disney doesn't just set up shop anywhere, and Postmates skipped over many much larger cities to be here. Both were worthy of inclusion, in my opinion.

Out of curiosity, where is Postmates office located? I searched for jobs on their site and every corporate job is San Francisco.

I mean they all make billions in dollars of profits per year except for Postmates. Postmates business is delivering stuff with cars and bikes... the others are making cutting edge communication networks and virtual reality goggles, self-driving cars and bad Star Wars remakes (jk haven't seen the new one).

It's cool Postmates came to Pittsburgh but I wouldn't say they are very similar.

I'm just bitter because I have a Pittsburgh address and tried to order something last week but they don't deliver to my house!

Yeah, I just don't understand why piecework jobs were lumped in with firms with tech/research salaried positions here. It's not inherently bad for that company to expand their service area here so long as those aren't the only jobs Pittsburgh can attract, but it's like saying another McDonald's opened...

I understand that it is good that these companies are taking interest in Pittsburgh but this really directly benefits software engineers and other highly qualified people.
