Uber drivers and lyft drivers are largely the same group of people.

The two companies just provide computer platforms for people in the car service business.

Nope, not against unionized labor. I am for unionized labor when there is a threat to the employee. However when I see that ATI is still struggling to get a contract because union members do not want to pay ANYTHING towards their own healthcare, then I have a problem with it. When I see that bad cops can get their jobs back because the union fights (no matter what the evidence is) for them, then I have a problem with it. As for teachers, our education system is so jacked up that striking teachers is very low on my list of issues.

Did we need unionization when Carnegie was working people to death? Yes. Do we need it for hotel workers who are treated like second class citizens? Yes. Perhaps Uber does need it, I don't know. I didn't realize that some Uber drivers were planning lives around it. My mistake. I do get that it works as employment for those that need it, but I would argue that planning on working as an Uber driver for the long term is not the wisest decision.

Its a free market, they aren't indentured to Uber, and they aren't being forced to accept their rates.

With modern technology and craigslist, Facebook, etc., they can line up their trips.
Jitneys are technically illegal, so I am not sure if that is sound advice.

My girlfriend used to drive for Lyft right when they rolled out in pittsburgh and I swear she made more than 90 cents a mile. there were some days where she would go out for a few hours on fri or sat night and make 150-200. Seemed like a decent gig to me as a side job or part time deal.

I was chatting up an Uber driver once, and he was retired and did it when he was bored, and only drove each day till he made $100. The Uber driver I was talking to last Saturday, he only works till midnight on weekends. He makes money off people going to the bar, but doesn't have to deal with the mess of taking them home from the bar.

the only thing this is going to do is drive up surge prices...which will then get more drivers on the road....supply and demand

I use them on an occasional basis, but I have never personally known anyone or talked to anyone that worked as both Uber and Lyft simultaneously. I would assume there is a non compete clause in their contracts, but maybe not, or maybe they don't enforce it. At one point uber was offering $500 bonuses to lyft drivers to switch to Uber. So with that I would have to assume you were not allowed to work for both????

I was curious about this, as well.

The rides I request often have decals for both companies. One driver even had a phone dedicated to each company on his dash.

I find most drivers I have used drive for both & im sure much like I do when requesting a ride, flip flop between whichever company is giving the better rate at that moment

I have been mostly loyal to Uber, but if Surges start to get too ridiculous I may entertain Lyft.

I agree with others that say the Surge will be too tempting to most of these so-called "Striking Drivers". I had no problem with the previous pricing, but am not going to complain about lower prices. I do understand drivers frustration however.

Why shouldn't drivers get paid? I thought the general consensus was that everyone should make at least $15/hr? Or is it a brand thing like Target being acceptable but WalMart isn't?
