Does anyone remember The Collector's 12" record store in Oakland? It was across the street from Jerry's (when it was near the McDonalds on Forbes). I remember shopping there in the late 80's/early 90's. They had some harder to find 12" singles and bootleg stuff.

Yeah. You'd hit Jerrys and then go across the street. I swear it was called the Collectors 7" though? Been a long time.

Actually it was Collectors 12". After posting this I found a post somewhere else that talked about it. Apparently the guy's name was Wayne and sadly the shop closed after he contracted AIDS. I remember buying my first Prince bootleg there.

Good memory, I vaguely remember a really thin guy who ran it. I believe it had an upstairs section, or was it a second floor only store like Jerry's?

It was a second floor only store. I had a friend who was a Depeche Mode superfan, so I went there with her many times to pick up some limited edition Japanese 12".

I've only ever gone to Stedefords on the North Side ( I remember the first time I was there, I bought Criminal Minded)...I don't remember Eide's being there, but I've always felt they're more of a comic store than a record store. I don't know that I ever found much of anything there.

And yeah, Collector's 12" was only on the 2nd floor.

Criminal Minded, BDP. Great record. Eide's stood roughly where the Roberto Clemente sculpture is now in front of the ball park. Back then it was very small and did indeed have what was probably a bigger focus on comics.

Yeah, when I got it, it was right around the time that By All Means Necessary had come out, and while My Philosophy was a great track, I still dug the first one better. But I still got looked at strange buying the old record when the new one was out (or maybe because I was a square lookin' white kid!)
