Hey guy's I moved from Canada to Monroeville a little over a year ago and I have questions about the neighborhoods in Monroeville. I've mostly been looking at town houses and the price ranges are all over the place and I don't know what to make of it.

There are town houses on Shady Ridge Dr and Meadow Gap drive that are ~100K. Some of them have been renovated and are quite appealing but I'm not sure if the area is all that safe. Another thing that makes me hesitant is the amount of units that are for sale in that complex at the moment, it seems like a lot of people are trying to leave...which isn't a good sign.

On the flip side there are newer townhouses nearby on Morningtide Court but they are almost double the price. Is 210K too much for Monroeville? I want something that won't be too hard to sell in about 5 years.

I looked through the forums and there seems to be consensus among you guys that the East Suburbs are declining. The crime rate, or at least the level of violent crime, also seems to be going up in Monroeville as well. So would I be better off looking in Murrysville? I've seen similar townhouses but they are closer to Delmont than Monroeville and my commute would be a lot longer.

Any advice would be appreciated.

What town/area are you commuting to?

What is the intersection of what you would like to spend and what you can afford?

murrysville is a much safer bet for resale than monroeville in 5 years.

The real question is how far of a commute can you tolerate, and where do you work? that will give a range of options. And what is your ideal budget? Murrysville is more expensive as a whole than monroeville.

Hey Stanwix, thanks for the reply. I work at Forbes. My max budget is 240K but I would like to spend around 180k.

Any reason you are looking east of the city? There are some good reasonable area's south/north,west which IMO are better if you are looking at resale. If you are really looking for resale, be sure to look at the school districts.

For a gig at Forbes, you can't get closer- you can go home and eat lunch in your own kitchen.

My aunt's lived near Haymaker Rd since I was a tot, and has no complaints about the area.

Murrysville, Penn Township and North Huntington are probably more stable in the long run, but then you can probably get more for your $$ in Monroeville.

I live in Murrysville, and it might be more stable, but I don't think Monroeville is going to totally tank. So I wouldn't worry about it if you're in a nice neighborhood. If you care about the school district, you might want to try the three listed above..... those commutes wouldn't be bad.

The Haymaker section of Monroeville is still a good area with quality homes and reasonable prices. You could also look at Penn Township in Westmoreland County, the commute would be a breeze.
