To go along with the walkability thread... what single thing would improve your neighborhood the most? If you already have everything listed, assume it would be another option / competitor of what already exists there.

Warning: Major First World Pains style request, but I would love a nice spot for brunch preferably with booze or perhaps a nicer neighborhood bar like The Summit in Mt Washington.

The Summit is an awesome place.

For me (Mount Washington) I'd have to say a gym. Mount Washington has everything on your list, but it would be nice to be able to exercise there without leaving in a car to hit the gym.

A park. Fortunately this is actually happening -- the former St. John's site is going to be converted to have a dog park and walking trail. Also the Vinnie Hill trail "back door" access to Riverview Park seems to be gaining traction in that the city might arrange to keep it clear or overgrowth. The Davis Avenue Bridge being rebuilt would be amazing, but frankly the neighborhood seems to have given up on that.

Getting a coffee shop again would be great. I literally wouldn't have moved to Brighton Heights if the coffee shop didn't exist. It's currently for rent if anybody on here is interested!

A nice restaurant with a bar would be great. I dream of a "Heights Brugges"

I'd love a diner/brunch place. My pipe dream is that Square Cafe or Coca Cafe would open a satellite location on Broadway. The old Eyetalian ladies might not like that, though.

I always judge a prospective area by transit access and coffee shop/small restaurant proximity. Parks that I can take my dog to also are nice.

Agree. Or just a nicer restaurant in Brookline. I end up taking friends to Mt. Lebanon to eat out. I'm good with the takeout options in the neighborhood -- Pitaland's Cafe and Las Palmas tacos are good enough for me -- but for nice sitdown meal with drinks, there's not a great option.

I really miss book stores, but we're fortunate to still have several in the Oakland area, and City Books is re-opening in Allegheny West this week. But a small book store is the only thing we would need in my neighborhood. We have everything else within walking distance.

Shadyside has neither a library nor a post office, but the Bloomfield post office and East Liberty library are close enough. A movie theater would be nice.

Yes, a movie theater in Shadyside would be great. There used to be the Shadyside Theater on Walnut Street, which is now that yoga clothing place or something. As for libraries, the main library in Oakland and the East Liberty and Squirrel Hill branches are easy enough to get to.

At one time, there was to be a theater in the Luna Square development that eventually fell through. I think it's where the giant UPMC garage in the busway valley is now.
