Hi,

According to the most recent PA driver's manual, when you are making a right turn at a T intersection and onto a bidirectional street, you must look left, right, then left again to make sure there is no traffic coming before making the right turn. Why would you want to look to the right?? Makes no sense. I thought you look both left, right and left again only when you are making a left turn onto a bidirectional. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A sign that says One Way is just a sign. There are still going to be dumb people who ignore it, don't see it, or otherwise find themselves going the wrong way. Always check. Always.

I agree with what you are saying when making a right turn onto a one-way street, but still does not make sense when making a right turn on a two-way street. I suppose people could still drive on the left lane by mistake. In any case, I will obey the driver's manual and look both ways.

thanks.

Plus, somebody might be crossing the street. How hard is it to turn your head?

It does if there are pedestrians.
Or what if traffic is backed up to the intersection?
Or if there is a bike lane?

First of all, why worry about it? Who follows the rules of the road anymore anyway, right?

Second, you must be looking at the Pittsburgh edition of the drivers manual. Proper procedure in Pittsburgh for pulling away from any traffic light or stop sign is to look in all directions multiple times, and do not proceed until someone wails on their horn to get you going

One more reason is the occasional ass who is making a left turn down your street so sharply that your proceeding with a turn would mean a head-on accident. Not that you should be blamed, but avoiding the asses is easier than an accident.

Because I am scheduled to take a road test at the DMV soon.

That's a good point.

I... swear the question involved a one way street when I first read it. Am I going insane?
