The police are in a different boat for sure than other public workers. I'm generally anti-union, but in this case I'm more pro-police than anti-union. And I'm not anti-government.

x2.
I'm not anti-government, but I'm anti-waste and anti-mismanagement.

Yeah... that's not really making much of a commitment. EVERYONE is "anti-waste" and "anti-mismanagement". To assume otherwise is political posturing.

If he doesn't want to pay the police then say it. Don't hide behind the Act 47 card and say that he can't. Not everyone is so gullible.
Unless the police are being fairly compensated and the other city employees aren't

That's your opinion.

Bottom line is that Peduto is lying about $$$ by playing the ACT 47 card.

Sounds to me like the police union previously consented to having an arbitration panel decide their contract if they can't come to an agreement with the city. When they asked for more money from the city and the city wouldn't agree, they went to the arbitration panel and the panel didn't decide in their favor either. Now that they've lost the arbitration, they're back to putting public pressure on the mayor and threatening to quit.

Edit: After re-reading the article, it seems that the police union actively requested the arbitration. Now that they've lost the arbitration that they wanted, they're threatening to take their ball and go home.

Probably not...but if reinforced, those who look at it impartially may take it into account. Gotta think one can only spend/waste so much $$$ before it can't be defended.
