I guess there will just be more police per call and no cops will be by themselves. Hope the violence doesn't get out of hand here in our fine city. I figure it will follow other cities at some point and the violence will escalate as we see across the country, but maybe Pittsburgh will be better than all that. Hard to say with the hyped up negative for profit media frenzy.

Stay safe PPD.

The worst part about these idiots (I'm actually leaning towards it being empty threat but obviously you can't be too careful now) is that it's going to take away police officers from responding to actual emergencies as less will be available to answer calls.

Just have the police stay out of zone 5. Won't be long before the naysayers beg to have them back.

Let emergency vehicles who aren't at risk respond to any medical issues or fires.

"Lando pointed out that many people have stopped and thanked officers for their service."

Maybe you didn't read that far into the article?

Who are these so called naysayer's? Zone 5 is a Large area. I cant Imagine Bloomfield to East Hills and Waterworks going without protection considering the amount of taxes we pay.

I read it...and they should be thanking them. However, there are many who complain about them and feel the criminals are being treated unfairly.

I don't think you understand the nature of the complaints against police.

People aren't complaining about poor treatment of criminals... they are complaining of brutality and injustice directed at people suspected by police of being criminals. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Anyway, I feel that your views on this matter are largely informed by nationwide events, rather than anything that is occurring locally. In reality, the number of complaints against the PGH police has dramatically decreased under the very same police commissioner that several posters here on city data criticize constantly to support their own political agendas:

Doubling up officers cuts the number of incidents they can respond to by half. The only way to compensate is putting more officers on busy shifts. That would mean lots of overtime or hiring more cops.

And it all adds up to higher taxes for less service.

There have been plenty of local complaints and even here about the treatment of criminals by police and even so far as saying black officers, even if they're not the best qualified to serve in certain areas.

People know right from wrong. Don't do the crime and you don't do the time.

Does black = criminal? That is what it sounds like to me. I have had not so pleasant encounters with city police and I have never committed a crime. ever. Was Jordan Miles a criminal? We can go back further as well. Was Johnny Gammage a criminal. The amount of ignorance displayed on here and across the country is scary.
