Which American cities are most comparable to Pittsburgh?

With continued improvement, which cities do you believe Pittsburgh could eclipse?

Which cities could potentially catch up to the Burgh?

The Allegheny Institute considers these cities "peers".

Cities selected to compare with Pittsburgh include St. Louis (MO), Minneapolis (MN),
Cincinnati (OH), Arlington (TX), Anaheim (CA), Tampa (FL), Wichita (KS), Colorado
Springs (CO), and Raleigh (NC). Because of data and geographic mix considerations,
Miami (FL), Toledo (OH), Honolulu (HI), and Santa Ana (CA) were not included.

I certainly don't think Minneapolis is a peer city. While I personally prefer Pittsburgh, Minneapolis beats Pittsburgh on a TON of metrics. Arlington almost doesn't count, as it's part of a Metroplex.

That is according to the Allegheny Institute. Peer cities in my opinion would be Cleveland, Charlotte, St Louis, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, New Orleans and a few others

Cleveland, Baltimore, Cincy, Milwaukee, St. Louis. Maybe Buffalo. All grew in a major way in the 19th Century, and began to decline after WW2.

I also think of Baltimore as a peer city, of course no one who lives within an hour of I95 agrees.

I can see Portland but Austin? I don't see the similarities at all. I'm thinking Baltimore, St Louis, Kansas City MO, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Cincinnati etc.

I see Baltimore as too close to DC and Philly to be considered a peer city of Pgh - Pgh is so geographically isolated.

If we're going to play that game, then we'll have to disqualify Milwaukee for being too close to Chicago and Buffalo for being too close to Toronto. I think you should evaluate the cities for what they are, as opposed to their proximity to other cities.
