The bottom line is Primanti's is considering going into the former Verde/Prairie space. It seems to be a weird fit for the area to me, but the owners apparently think it will be much better at attracting Garfield residents than an upscale restaurant would.

I think it would work. It would attract the neighborhood folks, and if it's open late like other Primanti's, it would get the people who dine out and drink well into the night. There aren't a lot of places in the area anymore where you can just get a cheap sandwich. Everything that's opening seems to be farm-to-table locally sourced something with an innovative cocktail program and the decor is polished cement and crates to sit on with a bare light bulb dangling from the unfinished ceiling for that trendy look. Sometimes people just want a greasy sandwich and a Coke.

I guess. I just didn't think Primanti's was really popular with anybody besides tourists and yinzers, and Garfield doesn't have a lot of either one.

I don't go to Primantis more than twice a year and when I do it's the one in the Strip but there are two hotels close in East Liberty and it's a fairly dense area with a lot of activity. I think it will be a success.

Primanti brothers is more than just slaw on a sandwich, they have good burgers, salads, chicken sandwiches and some nasty pizza that people like. I take my family to their family night on Tuesday or Thursday night. We go about once a month. They have a large 2 topping pizza, a family salad that we add chicken to, a dozen wings and a pitcher of lemonade that costs us around $24.

My family loves Primanti Brothers. My wife loves the cajun chicken breast (double meat) and I only eat the corned beef (double meat). The kids get the BLT. That location would give us another dinner option while shopping in East Liberty and Shadyside.

It'll do fine. Prices aren't too expensive, the location is close to the whole east end, they serve beer and it is kind friendly.

They are hugely popular with the happy hour and sports watching crowd. Also, tons of families go there. They really do turn the tables quick and if you have little kids no one cares if they are loud.

At times it seems as if the bar is more popular than the restaurant side.

Really? I think a place with relatively cheap, quick bar food, options for kids (which the suburban-style has), and half-decent beer will do well anywhere in Pittsburgh. And considering Salt, Verde, and Prairie have all closed nearby, it may be time to try something different.
