Hey everyone, it's me again. I just found a house in Etna. Thing is, I'm not sure how safe it is. Some posts a while back said the area was 'pretty safe' though I looked the recent thread about murders in the city and there were two in Etna this year alone. And are their any statistics for robbery and break ins?

The 2 murders were the same incident. An argument among friends over $40. Stupid.
Police: Argument Over $40 Led To Fatal Double Shooting In Etna « CBS Pittsburgh

That was the first murder in a long time in Etna. Statistically speaking, the crime rate in Etna including robberies and theft is extremely low and well below the national average.

It's safe. I'm sure there's petty crime, vandalism, car break ins etc but violent crime is rare.

I think one of the best ways of not getting murdered in Pittsburgh is to not do stupid things or act like an idiot. Murders are generally not random. If you are looking for a safe area, I suggest you look at the nonviolent crime stats. That will give you a better understanding of the crime that will effect you day to day.

I know Etna very well and it is very safe. I would have no problem living there and I would feel safer there than much of the city. I would walk all over Etna at any hour of the night no problem. Wouldn't even think about crime and I can't say that about most of the city. Sorry city folks. I think it is a comer to be honest. I know a few hip people moving there because they were just priced out of the city. It is going to happen in Etna and it will be a good place to commute to the city via bicycle in a couple years I'll bet. Sharpsburg is bigger as far as a downtown and I feel that is going to also go well over time and is also very safe.

Etna is definitely safe. I personally find aspinwall more visually appealing, but as far as safety, etna is fine.
