Probably used as often in this weather as a large suburban yard would be.

Definitely, they aren't as heavily used. But there ARE bike people out there. I live downtown where you can see these hardy people get around. Not just couriers.

I sled ride on my rear slope. Plus, tax money didn't buy my house.

I'm aware of that difference, but I don't think you need your yard in the winter because it's not being used as much. A horrible use of space.

Large yards are used everyday as they houses away from each other. Not everyone desires a connected home or one that's arms length away.

Bike lanes are used everyday to buffer pedestrians from cars. Not everyone drives or desires to.

Not really. It's home to deer, squirrels, ground hogs, woodpeckers, turkeys, raccoons, and the occasional red fox. I'm just lucky they allowed me to build a house on the lot.

One day, when drivers are automated and bikers are much more of a respected class, there may be no need for bike lanes as everyone can share the road fairly, but when you have 40mph nut balls oporating in tight spaces with bikers that never yield in fear of their life then isolating the two is necessary and considering how bike lanes make up less than 1% of city roads, I can't see how this is the travesty some people think this to be.

It isn't. But on the bright side, so long as people don't pick up the phone and call their Councilcritter, they may as well be shouting into the wind. As someone who is centrist in politics and pragmatic in nature, I just let the extremists online duke it out. It won't hurt me and it might amuse them.
