Hello,
I am moving from Arizona and was looking at places to buy, preferably 2 beds, 2 baths and a garage (at the minimum), around the 100k. Since I am not from PA (let alone from Pittsburgh), I have no clue where to look and which area is good or not. I have no friends or family in the area to help, so this is the hardest part. I will be working in North Versailles and do not want to travel more than 20 miles (I heard traffic is kind of bad?). Can someone please give me their honest opinion on where to buy? Or even consider?

I think that you should consider houses in Swissvale. It's convenient to both North Versailles and Pittsburgh. Several friends own homes there and find it to be a safe and pleasant place to live.

North Versailles itself is safe and you can easily find a house for 100k there.

Rent first. Buying a house in across the country in an area you aren't familiar with is risky. Renting for at least 6 to 12 months will let you determine which area is the best fit for your -- or if you hate it here, then you aren't tied down to a house and can more easily leave.

this indeed. but if you insist on buying right away, forest hills, swissvale, n versailes, turtle creek would all be fine areas and an easy commute.

Relying on more than 14 moves back and forth across the country, I strongly concur with Ferraris.....Each city has its own idiosyncrasies and parachuting in and anchoring oneself to one side of town or another, without knowledge of those, can be a catalyst for difficult and expensive to fix mistakes. This I know from firsthand experience

Best wishes for a safe and happy relocation!
