BrianTH was a quality poster. I didn't always agree with him, but he was a pretty solid person. Wish he was still here, but many of the old timers are gone. Heck, I used to post all the time, but just don't anymore. Except today.

I think he has moved on. He managed to promote/recommend Regent Square a lot. No one does that anymore. Regent Square, like Highland Park, is great neighborhood that get no love on here.

Yeah, I experienced NO violent crime, hence safe! Also, I have lived in the suburbs, guess what, some jag stole my bike when I was 10! Car break ins suck but they don't injure oneself. Get over yourself. FYI, Point Breeze is a 10 minute walk from this apartment complex and suffers from similar problems. With twice the rent.

That area from a safety standpoint, is pretty similar to all the other east end neighborhoods. Yes, the more exclusive parts of Point Breeze, or Squirrel Hill North may be a little safer, but they come at a much higher cost.

He's active on another forum, and I can say with some certainty based upon his comments there that he doesn't post here any longer. Though he might log in and read the posts on rare occasion.

That other forum is dead boring! I don't know how anyone can stand talking about one building after another and then rehashing it over and over again. It is like a broken recored over there. I think I posted over there like 10 times and got bored. Gotta have a little spice at least. Geez.

I think it was last year that someone mistook Eschaton for BrianTH. Different people. I'm certain of that.

BrianTH was my favorite poster. Now I guess I'm stuck with erieguy as my favorite?!

Anyhow, getting back on-topic, Regent Square is a perfectly fine neighborhood. I think it doesn't get much love on here because it's in a poor location. Frick Park is LOVELY (favorite urban park I've ever been in besides Central Park). Otherwise it feels far too disconnected from Downtown and the "core" of the city. Isn't it like six miles east of Downtown Pittsburgh? Biddle's Escape and Square Cafe are favorite haunts of mine. I've always wanted to try the Thai place there, too. It's not at all a popular neighborhood for students, but it is certainly going to be cheaper than renting in Squirrel Hill or Shadyside.

Also, if a neighborhood has little to no crime BESIDES car break-ins, then, yes, it IS a very safe neighborhood. I can safely say that I've taken car break-in reports in EVERY higher-end neighborhood in this city, and that hasn't hurt property values in Squirrel Hill, Lawrenceville, South Side Flats, or Point Breeze one bit. ~95% of the people I speak to who are victims of car break-ins are annoyed but otherwise just shrug off what happened as "life goes on". Maybe ~5% would freak out and "Get Marty" like certain easily-frightened people on this forum.

It's worth noting that the apartment complex in question is not in Regent Square. It's in Wilkinsburg on the border between Greater Park Place and Kelley West.

The area is still fine regardless. I think there are a few blocks of Peebles Square to the north of there which are still sketchy, otherwise the whole of Wilkinsburg west of the Busway is a safe area.
