I would have never guessed.

Wonder what Dan Onorato is doing these days? I always thought he would have made a good governor, I voted for him.

I thought he would have too, much better than Corbett at least. Last I heard, after his run as county executive finished up, he started to work with Highmark. He ran in a bad year to run as a Democrat though and there was a certain segment of the population especially in this area mad about that drink tax no one even thinks about anymore.

based on this from Welch's site, Im surprised you are not on board with him.

"To truly build one Pittsburgh, forced displacement of residents for developments must stop. We must greatly expand our affordable housing stock, along with protecting the affordable housing we already have. We need to make sure that all residents of Pittsburgh who have lived through the old times, through the hard times, are able to benefit from the good times by:

- Working to pass a mandatory inclusionary zoning policy that requires truly affordable housing in new developments, as recommended by the Affordable Housing Task Force, Homes for All Pittsburgh, and others.

- Strict “Build-First” requirements for development that destroys existing affordable housing.

- Protect against speculating through land banking and community land trusts ensuring community control and affordable housing in perpetuity.

- Work to include rent stabilization measures."

If "rent stabilization" means "rent control", I have a very hard time supporting this. It can be gamed and it also gives even more incentive for new developers to seek highest possible rents at the high end of the market and will ensure no new middle-income units come online.

Rev. Welch just seems too narrowly-focused/tunnel-visioned for my preferences. Of course I'd love to have a mayor who appreciates the levity of affordable housing vs. a mayor who doesn't understand the concept (Harris) or who willfully disavows the necessity of such a concept due to pompousness (Peduto). However, I also realize there are many, many other issues facing this city, and overall I think Peduto has the best grasp on how to keep tackling them.

Waiting for the moment when it dawns on SCR that his income is too high to qualify for affordable housing and Pittsburgh politicians don't care about his middle class concerns.

Or, that the typical offerings from the Democratic party are not the end-all.

Actually, they are, but because of the culture of this place, not because of substance.

This is not a knock to the party in general, but to the predictable mindset of leaders we get locally. In 2017, our infrastructure is dangerously frail - that is a huge deal.

This isn't true though. SCR would likely qualify for those homes in Brightwood.
