Yes, and the Pens won in '08 and '09.

Now you're getting it...THAT's what makes a rival.

Tell me all of the times the Caps have won a playoff series against the Pens, and we'll see how they stack up. No wait, I'll do it for you:

1990–91 Lost Division Finals to*Pittsburgh Penguins, 1–4
1991–92 Lost*Division Semifinals*to Pittsburgh Penguins, 3–4
1993–94 Won*Conference Quarterfinals*vs. Pittsburgh Penguins, 4–2
1994–95 Lost*Conference Quarterfinals*to Pittsburgh Penguins, 3–4
1995–96 Lost*Conference Quarterfinals*to Pittsburgh Penguins, 2–4
1999–00 Lost*Conference Quarterfinals*to Pittsburgh Penguins, 1–4
2000–01 Lost*Conference Quarterfinals*to Pittsburgh Penguins, 2–4
2008–09 Lost Conference Semifinals to Pittsburgh Penguins, 3–4
2015–16 Lost Second Round to Pittsburgh Penguins, 2–4
2016–17 Lost Second Round to Pittsburgh Penguins, 3–4

That my friend, is not a rivalry. That is a one sided spanking. That is a nemesis. That is a complete owning of one franchise by another. That is confirmation that two franchises are not by any means on equal footing.

Exactly.

Some only watch playoff hockey and have no idea what goes on during the regular season.

You're right. Especially when you base your concept only on the playoffs and think the Flyers are our only rival.

I'm sure you're not aware but we have lost to other division teams in the playoffs, so even by your definition, we have many more rivals than just the Flyers.

Now if you watch any regular season games you'd know who our rivals really are.

The playoffs are all that matter.....who cares about the President's Trophy??

And that proves the point. You base rivals only off of the playoffs. However, Pens/Caps is a huge playoff rivalry, also.

Again, we've lost to other division/conference teams than the Flyers.

The team that wants home ice throughout the playoffs cares about the Presidents Trophy.

It's not.
It's not at all.

Did you see the list of losses? They're an annoyance, not a rival. They're a speed bump.
