Is there any local insurance company around Pittsburgh?

We got a recommendation of "Stalwart Insurance" from lender. The agent helped us get a quote from "Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company".The premium is lower than what I could get from liberty mutual. But the liberty mutual gave us higher dwelling.

Thanks a lot.

Erie Insurance has done a phenomenal job for my family in the few instances that we have needed them- very responsive and quick to settle our claim(s). Our rates have generally been lower than others in the marketplace, when we have compared them to Erie in the past.

I agree. I had Travelers before switching to Erie and found Erie to be cheaper or in line with everyone else. I really have enjoyed working with my agent and the company in general.

I've never heard of Stalwart. You should find out if the agent gets a cut of the commission for referring them business. This is not unusual. I agree with others that Erie is a cheap option, however they will hit you hard after you file a claim. Erie, I believe, is a super-preferred insurance company. That means their book is top-notch and they have very strict underwriting guidelines. If you've recently had a claim within the past 3-5 years, they will probably reject you. If they reject you, the next best options would be State Farm or Farmers. Also, Donegal is a very good company with rates similar to Erie. If you're a member of AAA, they also have great rates. If you think you might file a claim soon, then pick a company like Allstate that has vanishing deductible/claim forgiveness. This will not be your cheapest option. All of these companies should offer you a multi-policy discount, so get a quote on your auto and life policies as well.

State Auto Insurance is who I have. Not the cheapest but excellent customer service. I don't live in PA anymore but they write insurance there and had them when I lived in Pittsburgh.

Others I would look at:

Erie insurance, donegal insurance, grange insurance, motorists mutual insurance, Westfield insurance, Cincinnati insurance, Chubb insurance

Thanks a lot, guys. We got a quote from Erie. Their premium is not lowest but it is fair and included guaranteed replacement cost. But their additional premium for water back up is higher. For our house it was $171. Liberty mutual (with geico auto discount) was only $80.

Could you guys share some claim experience from Erie? Thanks a lot.

Here is a family who is obviously not happy with Nationwide Insurance. I wonder how other homeowner's insurance companies would have treated this claim.
