Non-flyers will have access to Airmall at Pittsburgh International Airport | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

So once again, non-travelers can shop the Airmall. Though I suspect the Airmall isn't what it once was.

I believe there is also a push in Harrisburg to approve gambling in airports, so that could also bring in additional folks.

I hope this doesn't slow down security lines even more. The airport needs to be mindful to hire adequate staff to cover the additional volume.

it will. i think it is a capacity issue. when i am there they are full staffed and the lines are still glacial. just takes too long to go through the process.

Will they have free parking like most other malls? I use the Pittsburgh airport 2-4 times per year minimum and I am not sure I have ever even thought of going there just for shopping, especially with all of the shopping in nearby Robinson Township with free parking.

They might treat shoppers as "prechecked". Since they don't have a boarding pass.

Let's hope not, lest they water down the precheck process any more for those of us that travel frequently and pay for the feature.

now see, THIS, not so terrific. i think they are asking for problems. its crazy how local governments are relying on gambling revenue. its not wealth created - its wealth just transferred. plus, there are few places who are as satisfied as they thought they'd be with their gambling revenue and relationships to the operators.

Short term parking is $1; if someone was planning on spending money there to shop I can't think that $1 would matter; that being said unless you specifically wanted something from one of the stores there that you can't find elsewhere in the area (there are a handful) I don't think that shopping itself would be the draw but rather people meeting others flying in or taking people who are flying out - while their for other reasons then shopping/eating makes more sense.

I'm curious if the lounges will make having a boarding pass a requirement to enter now.
