"Jeff Bezos says he will ultimately decide Amazon HQ2′s location on ‘intuition’"
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/02/jeff...intuition.html

intuition: "the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning." Pittsburgh may actually have a (slim) chance, after all.

I didn't at all get the vibe that this is a done deal for Crystal City in the original Washington Post article. In fact, quite the opposite:

"Amazon.com has held advanced discussions about the possibility of opening its highly sought-after second headquarters in Crystal City,"

"The company may be having similar discussions with other finalists."

"What we don’t know, maybe there are two or three other sites, and they’re doing the same thing. That’s what’s scary to people around here.”

“They have said publicly they want HQ2 operating in 2019,” one person said. “Starting to work on that level of detail with the finalists is something they absolutely are doing . . . I think it’s a very small number of finalists . . . [The announcement] requires some level of coordination and advance notice.”

"The preferred choice among Post executives and consultants was a planned office building near Union Station, which they touted to Bezos during a tour of potential locations.
That site was the favorite — until Bezos weighed in, and chose a downtown building.
Now that Bezos is nearing a decision on the far more consequential HQ2 search, Washington area leaders are hoping he does not throw another curveball."

"These sources told CNBC that a final decision is "close" and may come down to Northern Virginia or Austin, Texas — or perhaps a split between both cities."

I’m indifferent at this point, but they really dont seem too concerned with the idea of repeating past sins again with the HQ2. Increases in traffic and housing prices in both Austin and DC would be detrimental to current residents but I guess they really aren’t concerned. Not surprising thought if you really consider that Amazon really focuses on customers but employees and those in it’s path be damned.

Crystal City? I don't see it, unless they severely downsize the expectations. It is not a big place, I don't think they could even fit 15K, let alone 50K more office workers there. They must certainly have building height limits since Reagan National Airport is actually in Crystal City, and very very close to the center. I think the tallest there is around 20 stories. And its almost entirely defense contractors who make much more than Amazon's target base salary. Its's a pretty good location for commuting to, but it's mostly built out already, so I would be interested to know what site they would have in mind. Good luck getting anywhere near the metro station. I still predict if they choose anywhere around DC, they will have less than 5k in the office after 5 years, and they will regret the choice.
