Good because it'll attract inmigration? Bad because the guys who could get steel jobs couldn't get IT jobs? Too many people? Better tax base? It'd be interesting to hear from Real Pittsburghers (tm)

I’m in the city at least 4 times a month, often times more only to visit family, friends, restaurants, events, etc... It’s a whole lot better than when I lived there back in the day but still not my cup of tea as a place to live, just to visit. The more cleaned up it would be and the more value I found in living there, would make me think more about living there, however.

Imo Amazon would be excellent. Immigration, jobs, tax base, etc..., but as we’ve seen, money follows money. While many will love the changes that come with it, many won’t...but I’ve always been one to say if you don’t like something or somewhere, fix it or go somewhere else.

NYT which had picked Denver has a "naysayer"

NYT columnist puts Pittsburgh first in Amazon HQ2 race, or How we learned to love bike lanes | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Quote:
“Pittsburgh lacks nonstop flights to Seattle and offers only limited nonstop service to international destinations. But the city was once a major hub for US Air, which made substantial investments in infrastructure there before it was taken over by American Airlines. The number of flights to and from Pittsburgh has dwindled since then, but they could easily be revived.”
Sort of makes me say, "Don't tear down and replace the Landside terminal, just yet". It ain't broke and Amazon might still want it the way it is.

NPR's listening audience certainly swings pretty far towards the liberal direction. But anyone who listens to their news coverage for any length of time should realize they actually go out of their way to find conservatives to talk to, and almost always let them state their point of view without critiquing it in any manner. This dynamic started during the G.W. Bush administration, when conservatives complained (rightly, IMHO) that if NPR was going to get any federal money, it should "present both sides." There's a widespread joke now on the left that NPR actually stands for "Nice Polite Republicans."

For many Americans, the 700 Club isn't a religious show or a news program, but a comedy show.

Just because NPR agrees with your agenda, doesn't make it less of a propaganda machine. Keep in mind, it is ALL for profit, even so-called "public radio/TV". I stand by what I said and I MEAN IT! NPR is off the charts.

I agree and I voted for Bernie, but would NOT vote for him if he runs again. I think the far left is nuts and NPR is their show. You can keep that crap.

I would love to see Amazon come to the 'burg, as long as they put a satellite campus in Soulless Cranberry or Generic McCandless. I had quite a few friends leave the area back in the mid 70's for Houston and Atlanta when the steel industry started to decline. The days of going from high school to the mills for a good paying job are long gone. Amazingly, despite that happening for about 40 years, today I shake my head when I see kids dropping out of high school or not furthering their education with either college or a good trade. Amazon would be a shot in the arm, starting with the airport. As to immigration, to paraphrase the late Olson Johnson: All right... we'll give some land to the Hispanics and the Asians. But we don't want the Irish!

(I'm part Irish, so I can say that.)

I have a relative who loves to listen to NPR and she says the same thing, that they do their best to make it as balanced as possible.
