Gay is not the same as trans.

I don't care what his lifestyle choices are, but of all the benefits to add to an insurance plan this should be one of the last in my opinion.

Sigh. People still don't understand this?

-- it's not that expensive, compared to cancer or many other serious conditions

-- it's going to affect a tiny, tiny number of people

-- to the people that it does affect, it means the world; this is a population that already suffers high levels of violence, and the murder and suicide rates are disproportionately high

-- Pittsburgh does attract people who move here specifically because it is known as being relatively welcoming to LGBTQ people

I don't know if it makes sense to rank these things from first to last, but it strikes me as a good thing for insurance to cover.

If people are still using terms like "lifestyle choice," they still don't understand it.

This was the right thing for the city do do.

Are we still in 2017 accusing every man who is unmarried or single as being gay?

No. Heck, I'm single (divorced) and nobody has ever accused me of being gay.
This has been a pretty regular whisper campaign against Peduto though - the most recent being some of Darlene's Facebook posts.

I don't know if anybody else posts on r/Pittsburgh here or not but Darlene Harris has basically been made into a meme over there. It's pretty funny but also a little disturbing because there really is something wrong/off about her.

I had no idea that others besides her had ever insinuated he was gay or would even care.
