I don't really feel strongly one way or the other, but thought it was an interesting read. Seems this article only showcases the PPS view. I would like to hear PAT's view.

Hey look, maybe one of these fare checkers will prevent a Terror attack one day or roll one back, so they may as well be armed. Not that I think Pittsburgh is a target. I say bring on more Police State tactics, and more Big Brother. At this point who cares.

Random fare checks on mass transit by police literally happens in just about every country with a decent transit system everywhere; not sure why pps thinks it’s students are apparently the only people too dumb to deal with this?

I think it is more about Progressive virtue signaling.

More likely though it’s just another sign that PPS school board isn’t made up of the brightest individuals

I think it is the “armed” portion of “armed fare checkers” the school board is concerned about. I don’t recall the fare checkers on Metra or Amtrak in Chicago having guns.

We have been warned about this escalation in security theater for a long time. Eventually those millimeter wave technologies will be small and cheap enough to be everywhere. Won't be able to get on a bus without a naked body scanner taking a peek!

I second that. Why armed?

However, based on the info in the article, i see it as the PPS trying yet again to bring down everyone and everything to an inferior level. Really (saracasm ahead), is it THAT important to make sure people have paid for a ride? yes, it is, sorry, but F U, PPS, from those who work and commute for a living.

Well I guess the punishment for not paying for your ride on the T must be to be shot on site, so I guess they need to be armed. Maybe fare jumpers are the reason the Port Authority is perpetually bankrupt???
