I have offstreet parking, so I typically don’t renew my parking permit in a timely manner. With guests coming for the holidays.I finally got around to renewing today, and learned that the city no longer gives physical guest passes. Guest vehicles must be logged into the PPA website. This seems, to me, like an outrageous invasion of privacy. Anyone else have a problem with this?

Why is this outrageous? They have to have their license plate number recorded for a guest pass? I have to log in my license plate at many parking pay stations. Your license plate is not a 'private' record to be frank. Lol.The parking authority has devices to scan plates down public roads that are zoned. This process saves time and money and I think you are overthinking the matter. Your license plate must be presented at all times. PA got rid of registration stickers because police constantly scan your plates. I am confused how you think its a violation?

Who visits my home and when, is absolutely a matter of privacy.

Then have them park some where else. The plates are on the street. You are overthinking it. A cop or PPA can scan any plate instantly. A plate on a public road is not private by any means on any level. I mean when I stay at a hotel I have to give my plate number! Lmao

I can’t tell if I’m failing to explain this or if you’re being willfully obtuse. There is a huge difference between being able to walk down the street and see the license plate on a car, parked in front of a home, and a permanent database with the times and dates of every visitor.

its probably a good streamlining of services. Yes, it is your privacy, but don't they take a public road to drive there? No one is IN your home, hearing your conversation.

I just said, when I stay at a hotel, they always ask for my license plate to be able to park in the lot? Think about it. Many parking garages ask for your license plate electronically. All this data is 100% stored. When I park on the street in many cities/towns I have to input my license plate #. This data is often stored in the cloud. You asked for feedback. And I am giving it, clearly you only wanted affirmation. They are not following you around tracking you with a GPS device. You are overthinking this greatly. Its a public road. You have to register your license plate in a database. Everyone's license plate is in a database. They are not following you around. Hell your phone records are in a data base.

If there was a crime committed. Sure that information would be subpoenaed and rightly so, other than that there is no invasion of privacy occurring.

Again. When I stay at a hotel. They 90% of the time want my plate number. And I guarantee the hotel puts it into their computer which is a database. It is the SAME thing that the PPA wants for your guests.

You don’t see the difference between a private entity keeping track of its own guests, and the government keeping track of a private citizen’s guests? Those situations aren’t even close to analogous.

Well, you need to look at the intent of collecting such information. It's not to track your house guests, it's so they don't get ticketed and pay a fine needlessly. We should assume that said information will not be used or abused by the government. Hopefully.

Do you have a parking permit, even though you have off street parking? If so you could give your guests your off street parking spot, and you park on the street.

That way the govt doesn't know who is visiting you.
