We all knew it was coming. Roller skating was replaced by a computer screen, but there sure were good memories. The limbo, hokey pokey, couple's skate and more. Not sure if anyone is old enough to remember such a thing or even was around the area back then, but it was a pretty big deal for many.

Skaters remember good times, younger days at Cheswick's Ches-A-Rena | TribLIVE

Skated there more than a few times. This follows the closing of the rink off of Route 8 last year. I think Neville Island is all we have left. Skating is not the big deal it used to be. I knew a group of older guys (they were young adults when I was a kid), who used to hit all of the rinks in the region. From Youngstown, to Charleroi, to Little Washington, they were there. A fun activity that let you meet lots of people, mingle with young ladies, and stay in shape too. What a concept!

I used to skate there in the late 1970s. Underneath the rink there was an arcade called the Pinball Wizard. All lot of students from Fox Chapel would head up to Cheswick on Friday night since there was no Waterworks Mall or cinema in the FC area. The Cheswick Quad movie theater was also a popular destination. Then after a movie or skating,. It was over to the nearby Pizza Hut. It was actually good in those days before they got into delivery.

It was still a pretty popular place when I was in my early teens. It was the middle school / early high school hangout back when our parents had to take us. I also played inline hockey there from about age 8 to 13. For what it’s worth, I am in my early 30s, which makes my time there something like 1993 to 1998.

City kids took the trolley to spinning wheels off rt 51. The trolley stop was next to the skating rink.

‘Couples skate’ was a sad part of my childhood

The one on Route 8 was pretty popular into the 2000's as well. I went there a few times, but it was never something I enjoyed. I thought ice skating was a lot more fun.

That just closed last year. Ardmore closed in the early 2000s.

I think the place on Nevile Island is the final roller rink.
