What are your thoughts on the Dejan controversy?

Lots of turmoil at his company, then this Deadspin article comes out ( https://deadspin.com/pittsburghs-cut...der-1821797940 ) , and then a couple more defections...

I don’t subscribe but what I read and what I hear him say in regards to sports, I like. He knows what he’s talking about and says it like it is.

In regards to the article, he sounds like an extremely demanding boss.

I have heard he’s extremely successful since he went out on his own. He was quite the homer before then.

No, it's a pretty popular sports website.

I tried subscribing to DK sports a couple times but decided not to renew for one reason, too many adds. One would think a Pay to use site would be somewhat add free but DK is quite loaded down with them and it's totally annoying.

On the 'controversy', I'd defer to anyone other than myself. My guess is that Dejan has made plenty of enemies since launching his site. Those who are only jealous and those he's actually stepped on to take a share of their media exposure. So who knows? I've always felt he was a good writer, more so when covering Pens for the PG. Still then he had his nay-sayers.

Maybe the success of DK Sports includes his stepping away from the business aspect. It's a great idea, if it works. Sounds rocky at the moment.

I subscribe (he's got about 40,00 subscribers). And I read Deadspin regularly. A lot of turnover isn't uncommon in a startup venture like this (he was The Athletic before such a thing existed, at least locally). It's clear he is a great writer, but lacks business sophistication (which, again, isn't uncommon for startup ventures).

The Deadspin story was pretty fair and balanced (they regularly highlight poor employment practices in the sports media; they've done writeups on SB Nation, NFL Network, Barstool, etc., lest anyone think they are picking on Pittsburgh).

They just lost two of the writers who I most enjoyed and who filled multiple roles at the venture (Matt Gajtka and Chris Mueller - not the 93.7 the Fan one), so we will see if the site quality takes a hit. Steelers, Pens, and Pirates coverage has generally been excellent on the site, as has the Penn State, Pitt, and Duquesne coverage.

My thoughts are- I have seen him on TV, but didn't know there was a controversy.

I liked his writing when he was in print. The only time I hear him now is when he's on Madden's show. Sounds like he's a little bit intense, maybe he should cut back on the latte.
