Hi, my fiance and I are looking for wedding receptions in the area and seeing as many Saturdays are already booked. We are left with either a September wedding on Sunday or a November wedding on Saturday.

Our question is: would early November be too cold, icky, miserable for a wedding? Everything would be indoor but I just don't want to have it be snowy, icy, rainy as we try to get from our ceremony to the reception venue (driving).

Any anecdotes, suggestions or warnings would be appreciated.

A September wedding would probably be fine. November would be much riskier. September is likely to be hot and humid. November could be beautiful or could be freezing cold.

Snow and ice are highly unlikely in early-mid November. Cold, gloomy, and rainy are all likely, depending on your definition of cold.

i think you would be taking a big risk. You might luck out, though.

I don't have data in front of me, but I think the last few years, October/November has been trending back to classic autumn weather, compared to the warmer, dry weather of the 2000s and early 2010s. I might be wrong.

If you stick to late October/early November, you should be fine in terms of snowy, icy weather. My brother and sister-in-law had a lovely wedding in late November (Thanksgiving weekend), but luck was on their side. Pittsburgh being Pittsburgh, raininess is always likely no matter what month or season it is. If you can choose, though, I think that it would be wiser to choose a September weather on a Sunday than to opt for a November wedding.

If you were planning for an outdoor fall wedding I'd say absolutely not, but since you'll be inside, I don't think it's too much of a risk. Late fall will probably be gloomy and damp, but we usually don't get much snow and ice before the end of the year.

November is guaranteed to be cold, unless it isn't. That's the thing about November-it's either cold or it's not...

Saturday weddings are better than Sunday weddings for drinkers and people from out of town.

Have you considered adding the extra sparkle and warmth to a November wedding by hosting it on Thanksgiving? Or on that week-end? To a lot of people, holidays have a very special feel and charisma and it could be a heartwarming "kick" for your guests to celebrate you and your decision to start your family on such a special, cozy day or during that lovely, grateful season. Candlelight and earthy color palettes ( and I do not mean orange and brown )and a fall menu will outweigh any inclement weather you might encounter, and they may enhance each other. If you have not selected the venue, have you considered having your ceremony in the same location as your reception, since weather is a concern? It is always much appreciated by guests: Ceremony to cocktails to dinner by way of walking room to room. Best wishes on your engagement and upcoming nuptials. November weddings can be beautiful, clouds, rain, snow or shine....people do enjoy a party more, though, when they can sleep later the next day!

Fun TidBits re bad weather:

Happy is the bride that rain falls on ( 48 years married and counting )
You will love your photos
Your day will be remembered as unique
Cooler weather affords you the opportunity to have another accessory...beautiful cape or shawl or bohemian cardigan type sweater etc
Umbrellas ( if raining) in wedding photos are so artistically pleasing: picture the bride and groom ( backs to camera...walking away) sheltered under the umbrella; so many candid shots could also be captured with umbrellas...especially in black and white shots....
