Okay, so maybe this will be directed more to those who get out alot, but who are the "Movers & Shakers" among the local Pittsburgh music scene?

Who are the best Live Bands, most active Studio recording Artists, and the band(s) that stand the best chance of getting signed in the next couple years?

They were as of New Years Eve! They were the First Night midnight entertainment...

Do any of them even live in Pittsburgh?

Yes, The Clarks are still around and to my knowledge most if not all live in the Pittsburgh area. I hear Brownie Mary is making a comeback. I personally like an Irish band called Ceann. How about the Buzz Poets? They still around?

These are all good ideas, but can you elaborate on places where a newcomer (like myself) might see them play out, live?

Are these typical bands that would be listed in City paper, or are they more of a "If You Don't Know You'd Better Ask Somebody" kind of scene?....

Look at the schedule for places like The Brillobox, The Shadow Lounge, and Mr. Small's Theatre.

For some really local flavor also look at Belvedere's and Howler's

I picked up a Pittsburgh City Paper last week; I believe it has all of these schedules. Gotta love the City Paper.

It depends on the genre you want. If you like rap, Wiz Khalifa, and a few other artists are here. The Clarks are from Pittsburgh if you like rock, and if you're into punk I hear Anti-Flag still does a few shows around here. Local bands to me are Westmoreland County metal, as we don't have much rap coming out of here. I will look for some sites for you
